American Science and Engineering ("AS&E"), supplier of innovative X-ray detection solutions, announced the receipt of a USD 5.5 million order from Abu Dhabi Customs Administration for multiple Z Backscatter Van (ZBV) X-ray screening systems and Gemini 100100 parcel X-ray inspection systems. The ZBV and Gemini systems will be used to screen vehicles, cargo, and passenger bags at border checkpoints in Abu Dhabi, the largest emirate of the United Arab Emirates.

"We have a long-standing relationship with Abu Dhabi Customs providing a range of product offerings to secure their strategic borders from smuggling, trade fraud, and other threats," said Anthony Fabiano, President and CEO. "We share their goal to balance minimum restrictions on trade while providing maximum security by utilizing the best inspection technologies. This repeat order demonstrates the confidence of the government of Abu Dhabi and the Customs Directorate of its Finance Department in AS&E products and services to help safeguard their borders."

Gemini Systems: Unique Multi-technology Parcel Inspection Systems The Gemini parcel inspection system is the lowest cost multi-technology parcel inspection system on the market and the only system to combine AS&E's Z Backscatter technology and dual-energy transmission. AS&E's Z Backscatter technology provides enhanced detection of organic materials such as explosives (including sheet and liquid explosives), drugs, and plastic weapons which are easily missed by transmission-only systems in cluttered parcels. Z Backscatter technology's photo-like images are easy to interpret, thereby speeding analysis time, potentially decreasing bags flagged for secondary screening, and reducing operator fatigue. Dual-energy transmission provides outstanding image quality, and enables the quick detection of a wide variety of threats such as guns, knives, and wires for IEDs. In addition, dual-energy offers organic and metallic discrimination. Together, the Gemini system's two technologies provide the most information available about the contents of a parcel.
