American Science and Engineering ("AS&E"), a leading supplier of innovative X-ray detection solutions, announced today that the Company has received its first Z Portal vehicle screening system order from Brazil. The state government of Rio de Janeiro will deploy the Z Portal system to safely and effectively screen cars and trucks to find contraband, including alcohol, tobacco, and other legal goods, that have been smuggled to evade duties.

"This first Z Portal system sold in Brazil will be an ideal security tool to assist state officials in collecting interstate tax revenue," said Anthony Fabiano, AS&E's President and CEO. "The Z Portal system has been successfully used by border officials worldwide to perform rapid inspections of vehicles, as well as quick and reliable manifest and cargo verification, to find smuggled goods. With AS&E's multi-view system, officials in the state of Rio de Janeiro will be able to deploy proven technology to effectively secure their state borders."
