L-3 Security & Detection Systems (SDS) announced that it has been awarded a five-year standing offer with the Canadian government to supply eXaminer XLB explosives detection systems (EDS).

L-3's eXaminer XLB is the first certified dual-energy EDS specifically optimized for screening checked baggage in high-throughput airport environments. Capable of scanning over 1,200 bags per hour in-line, it keeps baggage continuously moving through a meter-wide scanner.

"The eXaminer XLB is the industry's highest-performing in-line CT EDS, providing superior availability, low false alarms, high bag clear rate and dual-energy capability," said Thomas M. Ripp, president of L-3 Security & Detection Systems. "We continue to invest in the eXaminer platform, future proofing to meet emerging threats and operational requirements within demanding airport environments."

The eXaminer XLB generates high-resolution 3-D image data for explosives detection by combining helical CT with dual-energy imaging. Using 3-D Continuous Flow CT technology, the system generates high-resolution medical-quality images in real time. With advanced tools that include 360-degree rotational views of entire bags and individual threat objects, operators can quickly and confidently clear bags for flight or designate bags for search.
