Moxa´s South African partner Rj Connect is proud to announce that they donated four Moxa redundancy boxes to the Cape Peninsula University of Technology’s Centre for Substation Automation and Energy Management Systems (CSAEMS) lab. Moxa’s PT-G503-PHR-PTP RedBox is a PRP/HSR all-in-one device that supports Gigabit, coupling, and QuadBox for versatile and scalable zero switch-over time networks that are easy to manage and deploy. These benefits enable efficient network management and fast error detection in electrical substation and process automation systems.

Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town, South Africa, is the only Technology and the largest university in the province, with over 32,000 students. The Faculty of Engineering covers a broad range of engineering disciplines, which are currently being reformed to respond to the demands of regional, National and global industry priorities in engineering education.  It includes the Centre for Substation Automation and Energy Management Systems (CSAEMS).

The recently launched Centre for Substation Automation and Energy Management Systems is the only one of its kind in South Africa and offers specialised training, research and development in new technologies, which will improve power systems in South Africa. This centre is also the only lab in South Africa that has implemented the IEC6180 Standard for Communication Networks and

Systems In Substations, lately expanded to a standard for Power Utility Automation, which makes it a fully functional IEC61850 lab. This lab has enabled the wide adoption of the new technology and standards within the utility environment.

The centre is equipped with a state of the art substation automation laboratory and different manufacturer’s products that are currently being used in substations across Africa. IED’s have been supplied by Areva/Schneider/Alstom, ABB, SEL, GE, and Siemens to demonstrate  interoperability between manufacturers and each manufacturer’s unique value proposition. Rj Connect has worked very closely with this Centre and have donated a range of Moxa equipment for the communications between the IED
