Bosch: security for the new Event and Delivery Center. The new prestige ‚BMW World‘ in Munich required comprehensive but discreet fire and intruder detection together with modern safety systems.

The BMW Group recently equipped its corporate headquarters in Munich with a modern fire alarm system, supplied by Bosch. This complements the security system that had already been installed by the same supplier.

The relationship between the two companies has now been extended to cover the new Munich Event and Delivery Center with the installation of the entire security package from a single source.

Embedded Architecture

The task of early fire detection falls to about 3,000 fire detectors, some of which are the almost invisible 500 series smoke detectors. These are used in especially sensitive areas where they are camouflaged and recessed to blend discreetly into the structure. They are coloured to blend into their surroundings and mounted artfully into the ceilings so that nothing detracts from the astounding architecture with its distinctive double helix and roof designed to resemble a floating cloud.

Safety in Numbers

The hold-up and intrusion alarm system, consisting of 400 individual alarm detectors, monitors the outer perimeter and other sensitive areas. All reports are forwarded to one of four universal security systems (UGM), which initiate lifesaving procedures if ever the alarm is sounded.

Besides the fire protection and intrusion alarm systems, there is also a video surveillance system, an emergency exit door controller and a public address system.

If a fire does break out, a Praesideo public address system with 1,800 integrated loudspeakers located throughout the building ensures that both visitors and employees alike receive full and reliable information.

80 emergency exit doors are controlled centrally to ensure that the building can be evacuated extremely rapidly if the situation represents serious danger.

Charging and Storing Lithium-Ion Batteries Correctly

Lithium-ion batteries offer many advantages. They are long lasting, have a high energy density and are only slightly self-discharging. The batteries are therefore particularly practical for many devices in the industrial sector as well as in security technology. However, one thing should always be borne in mind: Lithium and many of its compounds are highly flammable and highly reactive. Certified and GS-tested type 90 safety cabinet models enable the highest safety requirements to be met when storing and charging lithium-ion batteries.
