Samsung Techwin: conference on vision technology. European distributors and system integrators were invited to attend the company's Vision Day conference in Lisbon on 13 and 14 March. The conference was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Lisbon and provided delegates with the opportunity to have hands-on demonstrations of the very latest network cameras and DVRs, all of which benefit from the technological advances resulting from Samsung Techwin's massive investment in R&D.
In his introduction Managing Director Jake Kim stated that Samsung Techwin is now the fastest growing CCTV brand in Europe. The audience, which also included HS Jung, vice president of Samsung Techwin's imaging and security division, as well as editors and publishers of 14 European security trade publications, heard Jake Kim express the company's determination to be the number 1 CCTV manufacturer by 2010.
In his management summary Jake Kim explained that the company's success will rely on:
- Samsung's brand power,
- Samsung Techwin's technology and manufacturing expertise,
- the introduction of the world's best product line-up,
- establishing a market-orientated sales organisation,
- an increasing demand through the enhanced marketing activities,
- market-close technical support and training.
New Product Development
At the conference Ken Matsumoto, Senior Research Engineer from the development group and David Hammond, European Sales Manager, presented the new products of Samsung Techwin Security System already available and prototypes of products that will be released in the next few months.
New Camera DSP Technology
Core of the new cameras are the new SV4 and W4 DSP chips that enable SSNR2, the second generation of Samsung's Super Noise Reduction with an improved S/N ratio of 52dB, advanced WDR (only for SV4), an 2D auto focus detector and a high resolution of 560TVL. The higher horizontal resolution of up to 560 TVL is achieved through a new horizontal edge detector and luminance frequency band alteration.
Among the company's product line-up for 2008 will be three high resolution cameras using the new W4 technology: SDC-425, SID-460 a dome camera and SID-53/56, a mini dome camera. The new SDZ-375 high resolution WDR zoom camera will use the SV4 chip and is equipped with a 37X optical zoom that delivers better focus and a higher contrast. Using the S4 chip, the new SHC-745 high resolution camera was developed for ultra low light applications, while SVD-4600 is a though vandal-proof dome camera.
With the SNC-570 and SND-562 (dome camera), two new Ipolis network IP cameras will be available in August and September that also will use the S4 technology.
DVR Technology
Samsung Techwin also presented new recording systems for high resolution image recording with multi-streaming functions, a powerful CMS and user-friendly search options. The '08 DVR line-up including the models SVR 3200/1680/1660/1645/960/460 has all those features und includes digital recording systems that achieve D1(704 x 480) high resolution image real-time recording capability.
For small and medium scale security systems the models SVR-940/450/440 were launched.
Video Management
To manage DVR and network products, the SNM-128P network manager was introduced. The integrated central management system comprises three programmes, namely viewer, player and map viewer, and is equipped with tools for finding recorded data by using meta-data among large number of files.
This helps to save time rather than searching all data files. In the 2008 version also elements of video analysis are integrated that allow motion detection by meta-data.
