Fire incidents in Dubai have been reduced by 8% in 2013 compared to 2012, said the director general of Dubai Civil Defence, Major General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi. He attributed the reduction to an "Increased awareness and proper follow-up of preventive measures."

There were 380 incidents of which only 11 were serious, 353 simple and 16 of medium impact. Al Matroushi attributed the minimal impact to "prompt response" and "effective coordination" among the DCD, the Roads and Transport Authority and other stakeholders. "Our time for response is up to the international standards of National Fire Protection Association. Our time for response, whether by a firefighter or a member of ambulance, is 9.23 minutes from the moment we are notified of a fire."
