Moving forward it is intended that Newton will divide his time between Chantilly - overseeing the strategic direction of business operations in the Americas - and AD Group's Worldwide headquarters in Warrington, England.
Newton, who is an extremely influential figure in the global security industry, has a career which spans over three decades. He is the creative and entrepreneurial force behind Dedicated Micros and, amongst other accolades, has been rated as the UK's No1 entrepreneur (Management Today magazine) in a market which is acknowledged as a world leader in the take-up of surveillance technologies.
Turning to the genesis of Dedicated Micros, and other AD Group brands, the foundations were laid back in the 1980s. During this time Newton was directly responsible for bringing to market the world's first commercially viable CCTV multiplexer which proved to be an instant success and is still recognized as a major landmark in the expansion of CCTV. In addition, the revolutionary DVST product line introduced in 1991 underlines Dedicated Micros' longstanding connection with IP video and transmission.
More recently Newton was the inspiration behind Dedicated Micros' Integrated Camera Recording (ICR) technology and the new 'deterministic' Closed IPTV solutions, with the latter selected to receive a prestigious 2010 ASIS Accolades Award. Shortly after leaving University in Manchester, England, as a Computer Science Graduate, Newton started-up Dedicated Micros in 1982 growing it, rapidly, into a multi-million dollar business with offices worldwide.
In 1997 he set-up AD Group where he focused his efforts on mobile CCTV solutions for aviation, video over IP - through the original incarnation of AD Network Video - and remotely monitored CCTV, with offices in the UK and US. In 2001, Newton created a single global force, encompassing all AD Group brands including Dedicated Micros, all sharing a common technology DNA - NetVu Connected - delivering a seamless video platform across mobile and fixed security applications.
Beyond CCTV, Newton's interests extend to motorsport as a two-time class winner at the famous Le Mans 24 Hours and a frequent competitor at Daytona in AD Group sponsored entries. He also has a strong connection to aviation as a qualified pilot and, through his commercial activities, with AD Group subsidiary AD Aerospace which is a major manufacturer of CCTV solutions, to protect commercial aircraft, and an approved supplier to the Boeing company.
Said Mike Newton: "I am delighted to be able to take up this leadership position as President of Dedicated Micros, Inc. and look forward to working closely with my colleagues, our partners and customers across the Americas in the months ahead. “Our operation in the region, from our headquarters in Chantilly and manufacturing plant in Orlando, remains a strategically vital part of Dedicated Micros' global business and we plan to rapidly expand the presence we have in the marketplace, especially in North America, including making IP based surveillance technology genuinely accessible at the mid-range dealer, installer and customer level. This upsurge is built upon strong investment in training, technical support and research and development.
"As pioneers in the industry, we believe that the CCTV solutions Dedicated Micros offer to customers in the Americas such as (Patent-Pending) Closed IPTV - a deterministic IP video product solution that brings the ease of set-up and physical security of a traditional CCTV system to the IP environment - are genuinely groundbreaking and address real issues on the ground.
"Crucially we are able to leverage the benefits of being part of AD Group and its extensive R&D base, a case in point, is privileged access to our Group-owned semiconductor business - Boston-based ChipWrights - allowing the integration of specially tailored Digital Signal Processors into Dedicated Micros' cameras, DVRs and NVRs.
This means, in practical terms, that we can keep one step ahead of the competition who have to build their products around the limitations of off-the-shelf silicon whereas for Dedicated Micros products are designed from the ground up to meet our specific surveillance equipment requirements.
