IEC 61850-3/ IEEE 1613 Certified Substation Computer based on Intel Core i7

Advantech introduces the UNO-4683, a new IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 certified substation computer based on Intel’s Core i7 processor, and four new UNOP plug-in modules for Ethernet, Serial, Fibre-optic and IRIG-B connectivity. The UNO-4683 joins Advantech’s UNO-4673A computer which is based on a low-power consumption ATOM D510 dual-core processor. Both computers use Advantech’s leading heat management expertise to enable regular operation at 100% CPU loads at operating temperatures of -20° to + 70°C.

The fanless UNO-4683 with Intel® Core™ i7 processor and compact 2U rackmount form factor, wide power supply options in AC (100 ~ 240 VAC) and DC (106 ~ 250 VDC), and the latest generation embedded Intel technology delivers performance and reliability. Certified to meet IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 standards for substations, the UNO-4683 is designed to communicate with all the different devices across a substation. It comes as standard with six Ethernet ports with LAN redundant teaming functionality, six USB ports, and two RS-232/422/485 isolated serial ports.

The three configurable domain I/O expansion slots are open for users to select the UNOP modules to meet their application needs. They are the modules for Fiber-optic LAN (UNOP-1514C), non-isolated serial port (UNOP-1618D), isolated serial port (UNOP-1628D) and IRIG-B with isolated serial ports (UNOP-1624D). UNOP modules are also compliant with the IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 standards. The UNOP modules are specifically designed for the UNO-4673A and UNO-4683 and are slotted in to the three configurable I/O expansion slots of the UNO-4673A/4683. Already available are modules for PCI, PCI-104, Mini-PCI, Mini-PCI-express and hard disk drives that support RAID 0 and 1.

Together with the hard disk drive and PCI/PCIe options, the modular approach allows system designers to use the same platform for every computing application in the substation. UNO-4673A and UNO-4683 can serve as excellent network analysers, data storage concentrators, gateways, controllers and SCADA and protocol servers. And with UNO-4683 Core i7 performance, system designers can now look at CPU-intensive applications like security, protocol conversion and virtualisation.
