OPTEX’s REDSCAN RLS-2020S: Compact, high resolution and high reliability
OPTEX REDSCAN RLS-2020S is a compact, high resolution, high reliability indoor and outdoor laser sensor that creates a customisable ‘virtual’ wall, or plane detection area of 20m x 20m maximum. The sensor uses 2D LiDAR technology and features specific algorithms to detect the size, speed and distance of all objects in the detection area and to capture their exact X&Y coordinates and thus, whatever the lighting conditions making it a great trigger for security systems.
The RLS-2020S is designed and suited for many different security applications. When used in vertical mode it is ideal for perimeter, building façade and asset protection. To name a few more unusual applications: the Redscan RLS-2020S creates a virtual protection detecting people attempting to jump onto a museum ship; it is used as virtual shutter for expensive jewellery displays, or bars in luxurious hotels out-of-hours, and also detects hands approaching artwork in museums. In horizontal mode, it protects flat roofs, ceilings/skylights and can detect people climbing over a wall or fence. Indoors, the sensor is able to use the high-resolution mode to detect objects as small as 2.5cm in diameter. It also has a ‘throw-mode’ to detect fast-moving objects being thrown in the air, or an individual running at 16.2kph in straight, vertical detection or at 45kph using a 30-degree angled detection and achieves a 25-millisecond response time. Optex REDSCANS are for instance used to protect skylights in warehouses, ceiling and floor voids in datacentres.
OPTEX’s REDSCAN MANAGER software gives users the ability to configure their sensors so that specific environments are taken into consideration; precisely selecting detection areas that can be set for different times of day, and with the option to set a specific size or speed of object to be detected.
The sensor is PoE compliant and can send alarms via traditional relay outputs, or by using its IP based Redwall event code. The event code has been integrated with all major Video Management Software and PSIM platforms to improve the reliability of video-based security systems, allowing it to track intruders/objects across up to four zones.
