Schmersal: SFB Port Extender for flexible security architectures

With the SFB Port Extender, Schmersal is expanding the Safety Field Box with additional connection options for decentralized automation solutions. The aim is to simplify the integration of additional components in the field and at the same time support flexible system architectures.

Up to four expansion modules can be connected per Safety Field Box. These enable the connection of additional digital inputs and outputs as well as further switching devices, thus creating more scope for individual applications. A large number of non-safe components can also be integrated and evaluated via common fieldbus protocols.

Power is supplied directly via the existing interface of the Safety Field Box, which reduces the installation effort. At the same time, the system structure remains clear and scalable.

The module provides digital inputs and outputs for typical applications such as indicator lights, pushbuttons or electromechanical switches. A two-channel safety input for safety-relevant signals is also integrated.

Overall, the solution offers a compact option for expanding decentralized control concepts and adapting them to heterogeneous requirements in machine and system automation.
