GE Security: Unix platform with web-deployable Java thin client cuts support costs. GE’s Security business announced that its Picture Perfect v4 Unixbased enterprise access control and security management system introduces new Java thin client technology and has added even more features for today’s security- and IT-demanding requirements. Introduced 15 years ago in 1991, it currently remains the ideal choice for IBM Aix and Red Hat Linux server platforms. Picture Perfect v4 integrates access control, alarm monitoring and photo ID credentialing with new value-added platform extensions that include web-based reporting, visitor management and digital video surveillance.
The web-deployable Java thin client is compatible with existing IT infrastructures, including Windows desktops. Unlike thick client architectures installed on individual workstations, Picture Perfect v4 eliminates client administration and automatically delivers software updates from the server. It eliminates the need for local IT resources to install and maintain desktop software, reducing support costs while maintaining security across the enterprise.
Because of its Unix-based architecture, Picture Perfect v4 is more reliable, stable and less vulnerable to virus attacks than Windows-based systems, a major reason for its popularity among large users. The robust, scalable Unix platform also easily handles high transaction volumes such as millions of card access transactions, complex data and real time interactivity, an essential for enterprise security applications.
Customizing
Security professionals can readily customize Picture Perfect v4’s Graphic User Interface (GUI) to make repetitive daily functions more efficient and improve operator productivity. Extensive built-in reporting capabilities provide immediate access to business intelligence, critical for maintaining effective security programs. Organisations can create dissimilar user interfaces for different operators to align with their security roles and to improve productivity.
Picture Perfect v4 can be tailored to specific operator functions and experience, including customizing data entry and search forms, generating form and field-level permissions, and creating templates for configuration wizards to simplify administrative tasks. The modular architecture provides easy expansion, allowing companies to start with a single server or redundant server system.
As such, the Picture Perfect v4 platform manages hundreds of facilities and scales to administer thousands of locations while maintaining the usability of a single synchronized system. By migrating to a Multi-Server Environment, the system can comprise up to 30 servers.
Platform Extensions
Additionally available are platform extensions that work seamlessly side by side with Picture Perfect v4 to further enhance its capabilities and deliver increased business value. Web-based reporting lets department managers and other authorized parties generate their own reports without requiring access to the Picture Perfect security system.
GE’s Visitor Central offers a scalable, easy-touse solution for identifying, authenticating and logging visitors. With GE’s Facility Commander, Picture Perfect v4 can be further extended to provide event driven automation with command and control for video surveillance, access control, intercom, and intrusion devices from a single console.
A wide range of third-party video and intercom systems are supported. Picture Perfect v4, now available, offers builtin support for multiple languages, including English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese and Hebrew, and global time zones.
