At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in February/March a TETRA system based on Cassidian technology was securing the radio communication. Radio communication was crucial for the accomplishment of the event and according to the Norwegian TETRA service provider TC Connect, the expectations for the system performance were high: 100% availability and 100% coverage. According to the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) manager of Oslo 2011 organising committee Svein Magne Karlsen, the system met all expectations.

"Our experience confirms that we did a right choice". The TETRA system will be used for managing several other events at the ski jumping hill located at Holmenkollen in Oslo.

In regular use the network of TC Connect serves around 1,000 users in Oslo area, Oslo's metro being the largest single customer. During the World Ski Championship the amount of users increased by 650 subscribers. The diverse teams including security, medical teams, transportation, parking, sport teams, anti-doping teams, jury and the organising committee themselves used Cassidians TETRA radios. Also some representatives of police, fire and ambulance services were connected to the same system for cooperation in case of incidents. The majority of the radios were the new THR9i model by Cassidian which provides excellent performance in terms of robustness, weather proofness and features including Lifeguard (man-down) which provides enhanced personal safety for the user.

The Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo, Norway, was a large scale event with a great success. During the Nordic World Ski Championships a total of 270,000 tickets were sold for 11 competition days along with estimated 50,000 spectators for the opening ceremony and a total of 650,000 fans at the evening ceremonies in the city centre of Oslo. In addition, 300,000 spectators are estimated to have followed the competitions outside of the stadiums and along the outer cross-country trails. This totals to up to 1.2 million people joining the event in various ways.
