Euralarm: Annual Report 2016-2017

Euralarm has published its Annual Report 2016-2017. The report underlines the impact of the association on the future of standardisation, electronic fire safety, security and associated services.

The Euralarm Annual Report 2016-2017 reflects on the benefits that were drawn from building up a new organisation in the year before: a new, motivated team in Brussels gave more time for intensifying contacts with Euralarm Members and further improve the associations' representativeness through new Members.

Joint Initiative on Standardisation (JIS)
One of the main focuses of the Euralarm Annual Report is a major initiative shaping the standardisation system for the future and bringing now together over 100 stakeholders: the Joint Initiative on Standardisation (JIS). Euralarm has been one of the ‘early’ co-signatories of this initiative, which sets out a shared vision to speed up, modernise and better prioritise standard setting by 2019. Euralarm's participation in JIS provides it with an opportunity to resolve some major issues impacting the Industry: issues with the Construction Product Regulation, the implementation of the RED Directive and standardisation process in general.

New Services Standard
Another highlight of the past year: Euralarm worked at the development, delivery and promotion of the new services standard EN 16763. A paper on outsourcing the maintenance of fire safety and security systems, intended for building owners and managers was published as part of those activities. EN 16763 puts a spotlight on the requirement for staff to be suitably skilled, trained and knowledgeable.

The period that is covered by the latest Annual Report has shown that Euralarm is an attractive association for the Industry, and remains the leading European trade association in electronic fire safety and security. It has attracted two new Members with a strong focus on innovation. Also contributing to this impactful year was the close co-operation with EUSAS (European Society for Automatic Alarm Systems) in organising a conference on cutting-edge and freshly published research on fire safety.
