G4S Forensic and Medical Services, the leading provider of medical and forensic services to the police in England, has been awarded a three-year contract to deliver forensic medical services to five police services, including Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire. The contract was awarded following a competitive four-way re-tender.

As part of G4S Integrated Services, which specialises in providing integrated facilities management and specialist support services in critical environments, G4S Forensic and Medical Services will deliver a full range of forensic medical services to detainees and victims of crimes across all five counties within a framework of robust clinical governance. Under the contract G4S will deploy around 200 medics and office support staff. These highly trained employees will operate within 40 custody suites which process around 150,000 detainees per year. G4S currently provides similar services to seven other police authorities, providing an unrivalled service in terms of quality and cost-effectiveness.

Nigel Hopgood, Senior Contracts Officer Suffolk Constabulary, commented: "G4S was awarded this contract as a result of their competitive costs and comprehensive tender submission. The quality and timeliness of service will be of utmost importance during the period of the contract and the consortium look forward to working with G4S to meet these objectives." Chris Elliott, Group Managing Director Integrated Services commented: "Originally a retender of two existing contracts, this successful re-pitch actually evolved into a consortium contract and will now mean that we will provide essential forensic and medical services to five police services across the South East of England including Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire."
