Knürr Technical Furniture: air-traffic control workstations for Apron Control. Knürr Technical Furniture has installed six latestgeneration air-traffic control workstations in the air-traffic control tower at Zurich Airport.

Every day, the air-traffic controllers in this area control and monitor more than 700 flight movements on the apron of the Swiss aviation hub.

The demanding nature of an airtraffic controller’s everyday duties determines the requirements in terms of workstation architecture. Even during the planning phase, the users themselves attached great importance to ergonomically designed workstations.

A separate height-adjustment facility for tables and monitors was therefore provided as well as an electrically operated monitor-tilt adjustment system to prevent users being blinded by reflections from the screens.

A particular challenge was to incorporate the existing technical equipment into the new tables in a space-saving and revision-secure manner. This equipment includes the radio and telephone system, sensitive systems such as the taxiway lighting control system, the dock control system, the electronic flight-strip system, the ground radar and other operating components.
