L-3 Security & Detection Systems announced that its ACX 6.4-MV X-ray system, meets European requirements for Liquid Explosive Detection Systems (LEDS), which qualifies the system to screen for liquid explosives at airport checkpoints.

The evaluation of the three-view ACX 6.4-MV with Optosecurity XMS for Type C LEDS was made within the Common Evaluation Process (CEP) of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC). This evaluation follows rigorous testing in accordance with the Common Testing Methodology for LEDS, carried out by the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT) in cooperation with the German Federal Police Technology Centre.

"We are proud to add this European evaluation to our multi-view platform, which has received prior approvals from the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for checkpoint and air cargo screening," said Thomas M. Ripp, president of L-3 Security & Detection Systems. "L-3 is now able to provide customers worldwide with a solution that meets regulatory requirements and delivers effective explosives detection in a high-throughput, compact and upgradeable AT platform with a low cost of ownership."
