Navtech Radar Awarded Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2010

Radar technology company Navtech Radar is awarded Britain's highest accolade for their innovative design and manufacture of radar based sensors for security surveillance, industrial automation and traffic sensing.

The Queen's Awards for Enterprise are the UK's most prestigious awards for business performance. Today, on the Queen's birthday, the champagne will be popped open at Navtech Radar in Ardington near Wantage in Oxfordshire as it is announced that, the world leading developer and manufacturer of millimetre wave (MMW) radar sensor solutions for outdoor Security and Surveillance applications has been awarded the Queens Award for Enterprise 2010.

The motivation for Navtech Radar's Award reads:

"Navtech Radar wins an Award for the continuous development of radar based sensors used for security surveillance, Industrial automation, and traffic sensing. Innovations by the small company include a precision timing system to improve range accuracy, a novel radar beam pattern to improve coverage and detection in surveillance applications, and robust system electronics to ensure reliable and accurate operation in the harshest of environmental conditions. These have been important to developments such as the first driverless straddle carrier container port, surveillance radar for security and airport surface movement, as well as radar-based road tunnel monitoring systems. Through the innovation the company has significantly increased both sales and profit."

The Award will be presented to Navtech Radar at their company premises in Home Farm, Ardington later in the year by the Lord Lieutenant of the County, as The Queen's representative. Further, the Queen normally invites representatives of each winning business unit to an evening Reception at Buckingham Palace.

Co-founder and MD of Navtech, Radar Philip Avery says," We are delighted to receive this award as recognition of the excellent innovative work that has been put in over recent years. The Queen's Award is very highly recognised outside the UK and this will certainly help us to raise the awareness of our solutions both nationally and abroad. Radar is a fast growing ‘emerging technology' for outdoor sensing particularly in security & surveillance and Traffic applications. With the increased focus on early warning, and high integrity solutions, particularly when it comes to perimeter security for critical infrastructure such as airports, power stations, border protection, data centres to name but a few, this recognition of Navtech's technology underlines the fact that its technology is truly unique and adds value. The importance of this accolade to Navtech Radar can not be emphasised enough. As a relatively small technology company it is hard to get the exposure that we feel the technology deserves. As the company continues to grow and establish itself in new markets in these demanding times this high profile recognition is a phenomenal boost of confidence to the entire staff who are working so hard to secure our continued growth".

The Queen's Awards are awarded each year by The Queen, on the advice of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by an Advisory Committee that includes representatives of Government, industry and commerce, and the trade unions. It recognises companies in three categories: International Trade, Innovation and Sustainable Development, and are open to all business units that meet the entry criteria. The Innovation award recognizes companies that have demonstrated commercial success through outstanding innovation of products or services, sustained over a period of 2 or 5 years.
