Muehlbauer Technology Group: colour printing on ID cards. Muehlbauer Technology Group announces the market launch of a new colour printing technology for personalising Smart Cards and passport holder pages, which base on 100% polycarbonate.

This technology sets a new milestone in the area of card and passport personalisation.

Besids various well-known security features, it’s now possible to enhance security-relevant documents even more by personalising e.g. a coloured photo onto polycarbonate material.

Smart Cards and passports based on polycarbonate guarantee a maximum of durability for fulfilling the recommendations of the ICAO concerning a long lifetime.

After the colour print is attached, the remaining data can be personalised for example by a highly secure laser engraving process. In addition a secure overlay can be applied. By using contacted or contactless chip technology in combination with this new process, the result is an absolutely high quality ID document.

Due to the highest resolution of colour printing and laser engraving as well as the long-time durability of the polycarbonate material it is impossible to counterfeit these documents.
