The Expanded Metal Company Launches High Security Gate System

The Expanded Metal Company has strengthened its presence in the perimeter security market with the launch of an innovative new high security gate.

The Hartlepool, UK based company, a specialist in the manufacture of expanded metal mesh products, has developed the enhanced high security gate system in response to increased demand for target hardening measures across Government infrastructure, defence, utilities and transport environments.

Forming part of the company’s ExMesh range of security solutions, the ExMesh SR3 Gate – available in both double-gate and pedestrian designs –  has achieved accreditation from the Loss Prevention Certification Board to Loss Prevention Standard (LPS) Security Rating (SR) 3, meaning that it can withstand attempts at forced entry with tools including crowbars, axes, hacksaws and bolt cutters.

Its ‘double skinned’ design offers an additional layer of protection, while the system also includes a fully protected locking mechanism, and fully protected gate hinges with anti-climb and anti-lift properties. Plus, if attacked, its metal mesh has sharp edges which further restrict access.

It has also been designed to be used in conjunction with LPS 1175 SR3-rated padlocks and ExMesh’s existing LPS 1175 SR3-rated fencing systems. The gate frame has been designed to restrict the passage of a human torso, making a physical security breach more difficult.

The ExMesh range includes LPS 1175 SR2 and SR3 rated fencing systems, anticlimb measures, cages, ExMesh Fastrack, a fence system developed for the rail industry, ExMesh Electra, designed for the electric and telecoms industries, and ExMesh Securilath, a security lath designed for installation between walls, ceilings and roofs.

George Hutchinson, product manager for ExMesh, said: “The ExMesh SR3 Gate has been designed to enable end users to protect facilities with an extremely robust level of perimeter security and its high security rating means that it is particularly useful in safeguarding unmanned sites.

“Access points such as gates can leave a facility vulnerable to physical infiltration: enhancing these areas with certified physical security solutions can therefore form an important part in an organisation’s overall security strategy.”

Philip Astley, managing director of The Expanded Metal Company, added: “The introduction of the ExMesh SR3 gate system demonstrates our continued commitment to product innovation in the physical security realm and our ability to meet the challenges of an ever-evolving security landscape.

“Our vast experience in engineering and our specialist manufacturing capabilities have been brought to bear in the development of this product, and we’re looking forward to supporting contractors and end users in integrating it into their physical security measures.”
