Assa Abloy Case Study: Cloud-managed Access Control for Deutsche See

Headquartered in Bremerhaven, Deutsche See is number one in Germany for marketing fish and seafood. At 19 sites across the country, it employs around 1,800 workers and supplies over 35,000 customers from the food retail trade, gastronomy and corporate and social catering sectors. Deutsche See also supplies end consumers all over Germany via its own online shop.

Worldwide procurement of high-quality raw produce; careful and tailored production and finishing; quality management; and a logistics system with a sustainable fleet all set the company apart.

A company like Deutsche See is always moving. New departments are formed, staff relocate and processes change. Suppliers, contractors and the company’s own personnel come and go.

This creates a constant need for new access authorizations which can only be adjusted quickly and cheaply with a highly flexible master-key system. Protected areas also require different levels of security, personalised locking type options and high weather resistance — particularly in outdoor areas.

Managing programmable keys in the cloud
Deutsche See chose the Ecliq electronic master-key system from Assa Abloy: Ecliq is a fully electronic system from the Cliq programmable key-operated access control range, offering a high level of protection against tampering and intelligent attacks. Its latest chip generation has AES encryption. The battery-powered keys are extremely robust, have a waterproof casing and thus fulfil the high demands of challenging environmental conditions.

Deutsche See’s electronic master-key system is managed via an easily scalable and flexible cloud-based platform using the Cliq Web Manager. This makes it easy to program, reprogram or audit every Ecliq key, cylinder, padlock or updater. And because the interface is accessible from anywhere with a Web connection — via secure login over https:// and multifactor authentication if required — you can manage access whenever and wherever you choose.

With the Software as a Service hosting solution chosen by Deutsche See, access control data is stored securely at Assa Abloy and can be accessed via the system at any time and from any location.

This software is especially well-suited for management of large master-key systems or in multiple locations with large distances between them. Because the Web client is platform-independent and thus suitable for any standard browser, it was installed easily on the server landscape at Deutsche See.

Its architecture supports multiple administrators, making security workflows much more efficient for Deutsche See.
