Notifier Fire Systems Engineered Systems Distributor, Dante Fire & Security has installed full fire detectionin Liverpool's Hard Days Night Hotel, which has opened with perfect timing as the city celebrates its status as European City of Culture 2008. The 4-star, Beatles-themed boutique hotel is set in a Grade II listed building in the heart of the city's famous Cavern district and offers restaurants, conference rooms, a souvenir shop and gallery featuring an extensive range of ‘Fab Four' memorabilia.
"In keeping with the hotel's state-of-the-art facilities, we wanted to ensure that our guests also benefited from the very latest in fire detection by ensuring fast reaction times without the inconvenience of false alarms," says BrentRamsell, buildings & facilities manager, Hard Day's Night Hotel. "In selecting a Notifier solution from Dante, we have achieved the ideal combination of technologically-advanced yet robust and cost-effective detection equipment backed up by first-class consultancy and support."
At the heart of the ID 3000-based system is Notifier's SMART4 multi-criteria fire detector. This intelligent plug-in device combines four separate sensing elements to act as a single integrated unit. These include CO sensing for monitoring carbon monoxide products from a fire, infra-red sensing for measuring ambient light levels and flame signatures, optical smoke detection and heat detection.
"TheSMART4 is ideally suited to hotel environments such as Hard Days Night Hotel," says Dante operations director,Brian Sinnott. "By integrating and continually monitoring all four elements, its advanced sensors can detect different types of fire faster. "At the same time, it normally operates at a high immunity level, instantly changing to become very sensitive to fires as soon as fire characteristics are sensed. This means that transient nuisances - such as cigarette smoke in a bedroom or hotel lobby, for example - are monitored and ignored, thus minimising the false alarm rate."
Dante is also responsible for on-going maintenance and support and confirms that the adoption of leading-edge technology in the SMART4 has maintained Notifier's market-leading levels of robustness. "Since the hotel opened, the SMART4 has provided 100 per cent reliability," confirms Sinnott, "with no false alarms resulting in unnecessary and potentially costly evacuations."
For John Simpson, Sales Manager, UK & Ireland, Notifier by Honeywell, "The Hard Days Night Hotel is an excellent example of how Notifier's exceptional technical sophistication, flexibility and reliability fully meets the demands of those environments where there is a substantial risk to life or where false alarms can attract a significant financial penalty in the form of customer refunds."
