At the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2010 the business unit "Innovation" of Lufthansa Technik has announced that it is now offering "aerosight", a newly developed cabin surveillance camera system. Lufthansa Technik will start to install the system on board in January 2011.

"aerosight" can simultaneously handle up to 16 cameras in the pressurized area of an aircraft. Using this flexible, innovative system the pilots are able to monitor access to the cockpit and overlook the cabin as well as the cargo compartment. The camera system automatically switches between a coloured day view mode and an infrared night view mode. "aerosight" is an iP (internet Protocol) based camera system with an integrated LAN (local area network) connection. Additionally it can be connected with the pilots' EFBs (Electronic Flight Bag) Class II).
Neither additional routers nor switches are needed nor are additional displays in the cockpit or an extra system control unit required. As "aerosight" uses the EFB Class II for display, control and handling it saves weight and simplifies installation compared to other camera systems.

The system works on all EFBs Class II, such as Laptops with docking stations in the cockpit. EFB Class I equipment, such as handhelds or EFB Class III fixed installed systems are not yet supported. Lufthansa Technik has developed "aerosight" for an undisclosed launching customer and will start to offer the system for other customers in the first quarter of 2011.
