Challenge Chris Newman, Managing Director of Conway Security Products, has cycled the length of the UK from Land's End to John o'Groats.
Chris covered 1,000 miles in 12 days, cycling in a team with friends Matt Piercy (Vice President, Northern EMEA at VMware) and James Campanini (Managing Director of WebEx EMEA). During the course of their ride the trio climbed hills totalling the equivalent of scaling Mount Everest twice. But collectively they managed to put on 1lb in weight, astonishing since they were each burning 8,000 calories a day.
The three men were cycling in aid of two charities, the Parasol Project and Wycombe High School where their daughters study. During the 12-day trip they raised over £10,000, a figure that is well beyond their original expectations and still rising.
Chris Newman said: "The ride took place during one of the wettest ‘droughts' on record but on the whole we were pretty lucky with the conditions until our final full day of riding brought headwinds, rain, sleet, hail and temperatures barely above freezing. We would all like to thank our sponsors and supporters. It was a fantastic adventure for us and one that has benefited many children in our community."
