Dubai Police are racing against time to adopt the best and highest international standards when it comes to performance, follow up, education, training and launch of creative initiatives that serve local community and preserve security, stability and safety of its members, said His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Shaikh Mohammad visited the General Headquarter of Dubai Police Department on Tuesday. He visited the Command and Control Room where he viewed the map of Dubai and its suburbs and the traffic movement on its internal roads and highways through giant electronic display screens. The screen display traffic movement on all roads through CCTV cameras connected to the room.

Shaikh Mohammad was also briefed by Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Chief, about the Dubai Police strategy for 2008-2015, which envisages the prudent vision of Shaikh Mohammad. The briefing included review of the strategic goals and initiatives launched by Dubai Police, which focuses on the security and safety of the community, preventing crimes, discovering organised crimes beforehand and maintaining general order with high efficiency.

"This is a source of pride for all of us," Shaikh Mohammad said during the tour. "Scientific training and practice on the ground are the most effective method for gaining knowledge and experience," Shaikh Mohammad added. He said exchange of ideas and extracting are the most useful out of them and is better than adoption a single point of view the opinion of a group is much sound than that of an individual.

Shaikh Mohammad also viewed projects and the new virtual training programmes that aim at providing a safe and practical training environment and a good place for giving theoretical lectures, in addition to using virtual methods as a back up in lectures and its usages in preparing trainees before taking them to the actual working ground.

Shaikh Mohammad also attended and viewed a live drill for the humanitarian services offered by Dubai Police to heart patients, where more than 950 patients have made use of the service since it was launched in 2007. The service, which has proven its success, is initiated through dialing the emergency number 999, which holds all the details of the patient and his location on the map, and accordingly an ambulance car moves swiftly to the designated location to save the patient, while transporting him to the hospital.

Shaikh Mohammad also viewed a smart patrol vehicle, which works through two electronic cameras and follows rule-violating vehicles. Shaikh Mohammad was received by Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Chief of Dubai Police, Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Deputy Chief of Dubai Police, and other senior officers. Shaikh Mohammad was accompanied by Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.
