Axis Communications: D6310 Air Quality Sensor (GSA27-57)
The Axis D6310 Air Quality Sensor is a network‑based multisensor designed for continuous monitoring of indoor air conditions in security‑critical environments. The device measures several parameters relevant to operational safety, compliance, and early detection of unwanted activities. These include aerosols, cigarette and vape emissions, VOC levels, temperature, and relative humidity. All data is processed in real time and can be integrated directly into security or building‑management systems for automated event handling.

A key functional contribution of the sensor lies in preventive fire safety. By detecting aerosol concentrations, smoke‑like particles, and chemical emissions at an early stage, the D6310 can provide initial indicators of potentially fire‑related situations—particularly in scenarios where conventional fire detectors may react late or not at all, such as concealed smoking, smoldering materials, or localized emissions.
This continuous monitoring enables early intervention before a critical fire event develops, making the sensor a valuable complementary layer to existing fire‑detection systems.
An integrated PIR sensor detects human presence, allowing contextual interpretation of air‑quality data—for example, distinguishing between occupied and unoccupied rooms or assessing emissions in relation to room usage. The device also includes an audio module with speaker and microphone for announcements, interaction, or acoustic event detection. The microphone can be physically disabled to meet privacy requirements.
The sensor operates on Axis OS firmware and supports edge‑to‑edge integration, enabling seamless connection to video and security infrastructures. Data is provided via a virtual stream and can be visualized in dashboards or VMS environments without additional licensing. Through PoE passthrough, the device can power additional network components, reducing installation complexity and cabling requirements.
With its IK08‑rated housing, the D6310 is suitable for environments requiring enhanced robustness, such as schools, public buildings, healthcare facilities, detention areas, or critical infrastructure. By combining air‑quality monitoring, acoustic event detection, presence sensing, and communication capabilities, the sensor provides a versatile component that supports both security‑related and fire‑safety‑relevant operational needs.
