Axis Communications: Perimeter sensors D2122-VE Radar and Axis D2123-VE Radar (GSA27-56)
The Axis D2122‑VE and Axis D2123‑VE radar units introduce two sensor platforms engineered for advanced perimeter protection systems. Both devices use FMCW radar technology to deliver accurate motion and object data, independent of lighting conditions or adverse weather. They provide horizontal coverage of 180° (20,000 m²) and 270° (30,000 m²) respectively, using rectangular detection zones that enable predictable, uniform area monitoring without the edge losses typical of conical fields.

A key technological enhancement is the AI‑driven object classification powered by the inhouse designed Artpec‑9 system‑on‑chip. This allows radar signatures to be reliably categorized as human or vehicle movement, significantly improving alarm quality and reducing false positives—particularly in environments where optical sensors are limited by darkness, fog, or glare.
The devices support radar‑video fusion, combining radar analytics with video analytics from selected PTZ cameras. Radar provides the initial detection and precise coordinates, while the PTZ camera automatically tracks and visually verifies the target. This dual‑sensor approach enhances event validation and forms a robust basis for automated response workflows.
Through edge‑to‑edge integration, radar and PTZ camera can operate under a single IP address, reducing licensing and integration complexity within VMS environments. Installation options are flexible: the D2122‑VE is suited for wall and fence mounting, while the D2123‑VE is optimized for pole and corner installations. Both models include PoE‑Out, enabling additional network devices to be powered without separate cabling.
Overall, these radar systems provide a high‑performance extension to existing video and sensor infrastructures, addressing key requirements of modern perimeter security: reliable detection, low false‑alarm rates, strong integration capabilities, and consistent performance under real‑world conditions.
