ComNet, Communication Networks of Danbury, Connecticut, an ACRE company, and a USA-based manufacturer of fiber optic transmission and networking equipment, is expanding its media converter line by introducing a new series of intelligent media converters. These new models provide additional benefits over traditional distance extending fiber optic media converters. These intelligent media converters add the capability redundancy by offering two SFP fiber ports that allow for redundant upload paths and a MUX feature for port isolation preventing network video flooding of multicast traffic Multiplexing feature for port isolation that prevents network video flooding of multicast traffic redundant.

The ComNet CNGEMC4+2[POE][HO]/M is a four-port intelligent Media Converter. It has four 10/100/1000Base-T(X) copper ports and two 100/1000Base-FX SFP ports. The CNGEMC4+2[POE] [HO]/M provides exclusive functionality for easy field deployment including DIP switch-based operation of RSFP (redundant SFP) for creating redundant fiber connections. Optional PoE models will be available for the RJ45 ports, meeting the IEE802.3 af/at standard.

According to Andrew Acquarulo Jr., ComNet CEO and President, “Media converters are generally simple in the use. The primary purpose is as a distance extending device. By adding features such as redundant SFP ports, we are offering our customers another way of making their network more reliable and immune from network path interruptions. This keeps us front and center in terms of innovation.”

The company believes that these features give them a more competitive position in the market and allows ComNet to be unique and differentiate the product line.

“Making any network operate more efficiently and effectively is another way of how ComNet moves the market. By leading with our advanced technology, we position ComNet and our solutions as the place to go for “new and better” transmission options. Our position is that if you are concerned about the long-term success of your application, choosing ComNet ensures it will be,” said Skip Haight, ComNet VP of Marketing.

HVI Light Plus for Lightning Protection Applications

When installing bare, uninsulated air-termination conductors on the roof, the separation distance to electrical and metal systems installed under the roof surface must be maintained in accordance with the current lightning protection standard DIN EN 62305-3. Cable installations, pipe systems or metal parts are frequently installed under the roofing in direct proximity to the air-termination system / down conductor, thus posing a proximity issue. The solution is isolated air-termination systems with high-voltage-resistant, insulated down conductors.
