Bernstein: SIB Sensor for safety concepts

Bernstein is driving forward the use of inductive sensors in safety-critical applications. The new SIB inductive sensors offer two antivalent output signals (normally open and normally closed contacts) that are monitored and compared by the control system. If the signals are no longer opposed, the error is detected and the system is safely shut down. With a suitable safety control and in compliance with the BMA, it can be used in safety-related applications up to PL d/SIL 2.
Developed in close collaboration with one of our customers and in response to tightened product standards, these sensors are the answer to a specific market requirement. Using these sensors considerably reduces the amount of wiring and the purchase costs, while making the overall system simpler and less complex. This is a decisive advantage over conventional solutions that require two standard sensors for redundant querying.
In addition, the sensors are TÜV certified, which ensures quick and easy integration into existing safety chains with suitable evaluation. The new inductive sensors can be used in a wide range of applications, including escalators (where they can be used to monitor the main drive chain and the handrail), lifts, loading cranes and stationary presses. In the entire field of mechanical engineering, they provide a reliable solution for the safe detection of metallic objects.
