Suprema First to Meet EU’s New CE RED Cybersecurity Standards for Access Control Devices

Suprema’s AI-based facial authentication access control devices have received CE RED certification under the European Union’s updated Radio Equipment Directive (RED), which introduces stricter cybersecurity requirements. According to public sources and internal research, Suprema is currently the first access control company to meet these new standards.

The revised RED directive (Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/30), which becomes enforceable on August 1, 2025, mandates cybersecurity compliance for wireless and IoT devices such as smart locks, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth-enabled systems, and payment terminals. Suprema obtained certification ahead of the enforcement date.

The certified devices—BioStation 3 and BioEntry W3—are AI edge devices that perform facial authentication locally using deep learning algorithms. They support multiple authentication methods, including Bluetooth, NFC-based mobile credentials, and RFID cards. The certification confirms compliance with updated requirements related to network protection, data privacy, and fraud prevention.

Suprema plans to complete the certification process for its full range of access authentication devices, including those using fingerprint recognition and mobile access, by August 2025.
