Dallmeier electronic: the world's largest digital matrix surveillance system in Macao. Dallmeier has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract to supply and commission the world’s largest digital matrix surveillance system in The Venetian Macao Resort Hotel.
Currently under construction, The Venetian Macao Resort Hotel, a US$ 1.8 billion development mirroring its Las Vegas namesake, is the anchor property of the Cotai Strip of Macao – Asia’s Las Vegas. The Cotai Strip is a master planned development of resort casino properties on Cotai, an area of reclaimed land between the islands of Taipa and Coloane in Macao.
It is scheduled to open in 2007. The 10.5 million square feet Venetian Macao is a 3,000 suite mega resort including hotel, casino, convention and meeting facilities, an events centre, restaurants and retail space. The casino will consist of 546,000 square feet of gaming floor which includes over 6,000 slot machines and 700 table games.
System Design
The Dallmeier Casino solution for The Venetian Macao Casino – comprising hardware, software, monitoring and transmission components – provides full resolution real time surveillance; an essential requirement for all casino environments. Integral to the design of the solution is the principle of decentralised recording. This achieves the best data security and availability as well as cost effectiveness.
The Venetian Macao Casino chose the company’s decentralised archiving solution with virtual matrix functionality because the system offered considerable savings in relation to peripherals and network components, and offered economic and secure archiving.
Comparing the decentralised with the centralised recording system solutions, the cost advantage is about 3:1 because of the significantly higher resources required for storage, network and failsafe reliability within a centralised recording solution.
Fixed and Dome Cameras
Phase one of the Cotai Strip system comprises both fixed and PTZ (dome) cameras monitoring the casino, restaurants and hotel. Additionally, monitoring of the cameras from the installation completed in 2004 at the Sands Macao Casino will take place in the Venetian Macao control room.
Additional systems to be added later in adjoining hotel complexes will result in the system being the largest fully digital matrix casino surveillance system in the world. Decentralised recording is carried out by Dallmeier’s DIS-2/M streaming servers (digital video recorders) using the MPEG-2 compression format.
Recorded data are written to two hard disks (per DVR) by mirrored recording. The standard hard disk stores seven days of recording (real-time), whilst the second hard disk stores 24 hours of data as a backup.
