Efaflex: high-speed doors for Ava. Ava in Augsburg is a young company that operates one of the most modern recycling plants in Europe. The company has put together a remarkable new waste management concept with an innovative dumping park. In this model, the facility tracts waste power plant with hospital waste burning, composting and sorting are usefully combined in a mixed operation model of communal and private partnering.

The company’s long-standing partner, Efaflex, supplies all the highspeed doors for the new buildings, extension buildings and replacements of existing door systems. Efaflex high-speed doors were chosen mainly for economical reasons. Ava’s goal was getting the doors more or less “tight” concerning the critical issues of all door openings with regards to the emission related point of view.

Reaching the target of reducing emissions requires fully automatically operated doors that close tightly and firmly to prevent noises and odours from leaking out of the building. Trucks and forklifts frequently move through the dumping park, so the doors must open and shut quickly. Not only does this ensure optimal traffic flow, it also reduces emission sent to the environment each time a door is opened.

Conventional roll-up and sectional doors are not designed for such heavy-duty applications. Only Efaflex doors constantly achieve moving speeds up to 4.0m/sec. A special control makes sure that the doors automatically close after each cycle. The building is almost “hermetically” closed; this provides an effective access control, boosting object protection and company security.

With the unique door light-line grid TLG an infrared light curtain is created exactly in the door closing line. This system safeguards contact-free detection of all obstacles by covering the major part of the opening. The used high-speed doors are designed for at least 150,000 openings and closings per year.

Ava handles the waste disposal needs of nearly 650,000 citizens in the region of Augsburg. Every day, the Efaflex high-speed doors make a substantial contribution to improving working conditions and company safety as well protecting the environment.
