Certification you can specify with confidence, wherever you're building
Specifying fire detection across Europe is rarely as simple as choosing a product that works. A system approved in one country isn't automatically approved in the next and for specifiers and installers working across borders, that gap can turn a straightforward project into a compliance headache halfway through. Getting certification right at the outset sets the foundation for a system's working life, often stretching across decades and holding that standard means the right support doesn't stop once the system is commissioned.
EN 54 remains the foundation, so it’s important to ensure that the devices and systems you choose carry the certification relevant to its role, giving you confidence a product does what it claims under the conditions it's tested against. One certification worth understanding in more depth is EN 54-30, which covers heat and carbon monoxide multi-sensor detectors, because it is more than just a technical update. It's about protecting the people in the room, not just the route out of it. That's a meaningful change in how we think about detection, not just where we place it."
As buildings get more complex and occupancy patterns get harder to predict. A system designed only to clear an escape route doesn't necessarily protect the people who haven't yet reached it.
Certification also needs to work at a market level, not just a product level. BOSEC is the required quality benchmark for fire detection products and systems in Belgium for example. So choosing manufacturers with solid reputations and the right certifications for each region should be top of your list.
