Global pressure, hybrid threats, new regulations: The NRW Security Day 2026 demonstrates why economic security is becoming a core strategic priority. With approximately 200 participants, the event set a new record—a sign of the topic’s growing relevance. The Alliance for Economic Security West (ASW West), to be known as VSW NRW in the future, underscored its commitment to further improving communication between government agencies and the business community.

DLR, Research and Safety: Insights from the Host
From the host’s perspective, Dr. Melanie von der Wiesche of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) kicked off the event. She outlined the DLR’s role as an interdisciplinary research institution that addresses not only aerospace but also energy, transportation, and security technologies. Particularly in the field of critical infrastructure and resilience research, it becomes clear how closely scientific findings and practical security issues are linked. The activities presented ranged from the analysis of complex risk scenarios to the development of protection concepts for terrestrial infrastructure. Security, according to her implicit message, no longer begins with the event itself, but rather with the modeling and understanding of future threat scenarios.
