VoWiFi handset to support the IEEE 802.11n networking standard

Ascom Wireless Solutions, the leading supplier of on-site wireless communications, announced the release of the Ascom i62, their new generation VoWiFi handset. The new generation is the first to support the latest IEEE 802.11n networking standard.

Additionally, the i62 is designed to offer benefits to end-users of the handset. It is especially targeted for the hospital segment, providing benefits to both the clinical and technical areas within a hospital."

The new Ascom i62 VoWiFi handset replaces the previous model, the Ascom i75 and offers a new sleek design, high-resolution colour TFT display, is IP44 classified, offers a longer battery time, as well as a range of other upgrades. As with all Ascom handsets, it can be managed over-the-air (OTA) and is tested to interoperate within a WiFi network. The design is built upon Ascom’s long experience in offering state-of-the-art, purpose-built handsets, along with wireless voice and message transmission systems and customized alarm and positioning applications for mission critical communications.

The Ascom i62 offers a unique solution to users via the Ascom interactive messaging capabilities, which seamlessly integrates a broad range of fixed, wireless, and mobile media, including messaging and alarm systems, as well as cordless phone systems with public communications technologies, such as GSM, email, and the Internet. The IP-based, open architecture makes for a highly scalable system, meaning that businesses can address immediate needs by starting small, and then adding extra capacity or functionality as needs increase. Ascom provides interoperability with the major vendors on the market and are able to customize the integration where applicable. Regardless of whether a PBX system is a traditional type or IP based, or whether connecting to Nurse Call or other types of patient monitoring systems, Ascom provides the best possible integration of systems with the Ascom i62.

With the Ascom i62 VoWiFi handset, users get a single mobile device for voice conversations, text messaging and alarms from systems throughout their hospital or business.
