Hirsch Secure: Lumor Fiber Optic Intrusion Detection (GSA27-56)
Lumor is an innovation by Hirsch in the field of perimeter security and fence detection. It is a state-of-the-art fiber optic detection system based on quantitative DAS technology (Distributed Acoustic Sensing), enabling continuous and precise monitoring of large areas and setting new standards in perimeter security.

The DAS technology transforms a standard optical fiber into a virtual network of thousands of "microphones," arranged at regular intervals along the cable. These sensors detect changes in the light reflected within the fiber optic cable, enabling precise event detection in real time as well as geolocation and classification of activities.
Compared to qualitative systems, quantitative DAS technology offers a greater dynamic range, ensuring finer detection and optimized control of security measures. The system can distinguish sounds such as motorcycles from cars, four-legged animals/horses, and people, and can be trained on-site to differentiate unusual noises from typical site sounds.
This advanced technology allows fiber optic cables to be used as sensors, enabling the continuous detection and localization of movements, vibrations, or other physical influences along up to 130 kilometers.
Lumor offers several technical advantages:
- Detection over large distances: Efficient monitoring of perimeters spanning hundreds of kilometers, depending on the installation type—either above ground along fences or buried underground.
- Learning system
- Precise geolocation: Events are located in real time with an accuracy of up to several meters, enabling security teams to respond quickly.
- Reduced false alarms: The quantitative DAS technology reliably distinguishes between actual security events and environmental noise.
- Easy integration and low installation costs: Since only a fiber optic cable needs to be laid, the installation effort is significantly lower than with conventional sensor solutions.
