Intersec 2011 was being held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from January 16 to 18 and was the largest Intersec Dubai ever. This year's Intersec was 25% bigger regarding exhibition space deployed, in comparison to the 2010 edition, reflecting the growing interest in the industry worldwide. Over 800 exhibitors from more than 50 countries attracted a strong response from security and safety professionals, government and law enforcement officials, buyers and key influencers from around the region. The visitor numbers have not been officially announced but they should be significantly larger than the 19,000 that attended the last edition.

His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum inaugurated Intersec 2011 and was accompanied by a delegation of senior officials from the government including: Lt. Gen. Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief; Major General Dr. Mohammed bin Fahad, Director General, Dubai Police Academy; Major General Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, Director General, UAE Civil Defence; Major General Mohamed Ahmed Al Marri, Director of DNRD; Col. Ahmed Obaid Al Sayegh, Assistant of Director General for Fire and Rescue, UAE Civil Defence; and Lt. Col Rashid Bu Falasi, UAE Civil Defence. Also participating in the opening ceremony was German Parliamentary State Secretary, Mr. Hans-Joachim Otto, organiser Epoc Messe Frankfurt and representatives from the region's safety, security and policing sectors.

"Over the last 12 years, Intersec has mirrored the expansion of the regional safety and security industry," said Ahmed Pauwels, Chief Executive Officer of organiser Epoc Messe Frankfurt. "Through Intersec we will continue to feature the latest trends and enhancements in the global industry. We have further development plans in mind which will play a part in influencing more positive advances in the region by facilitating and promoting trade and an exchange of ideas," he added.
