Gekartel AG: Fire-resistant tablet computer (GSA27-57)
Secure media technology for secure digitalization – focusing on fire safety and IT security: These touchscreen tablets with integrated PC units were developed by Gekartel with a focus on both fire safety and IT security. Gekartel AG is one of the first manufacturers of industrial-grade tablets that meet both KRITIS requirements and the strict fire safety requirements of VdS 6024.

In the course of a hospital client project, Gekartel recognized the urgent need to develop an additional security feature (PEAP). Since hospitals and critical infrastructure facilities often explicitly require use via LAN for security reasons, gekartel AG is the only provider to date to have implemented the PEAP feature specifically for connection via LAN cable (RJ45) as an additional function. A KRITIS-compliant, hardened Android operating system with IEEE 802.1X PEAP support ensures maximum IT security. Previously, PEAP was only supported on Android for Wi-Fi connections.
A robust design featuring fire-safety-optimized components with low fire load—such as the metal housing and vandal-proof safety glass—high-quality internal components suitable for continuous operation over many years, and a device-integrated fire protection system enable safe installation even in sensitive areas, such as escape and rescue routes. Gekartel is recognized as a technological pioneer in the development of device-integrated fire protection systems for media technology and is one of the first manufacturers worldwide whose devices have been certified according to VdS 6024.
The use of digital media technology is thus also made easier—or even possible for the first time—for operators of critical infrastructure (KRITIS), such as hospitals, government agencies, or schools, since the tablets meet the strict requirements necessary to ensure the security and availability of the IT systems in use.
