Dallmeier electronic: expanding production facilities in Germany. They have always had a pioneering spirit as well as the courage to be innovative and break the mould. Now, Regensburg based CCTV/IP specialist Dallmeier are again bucking the trend. While other manufacturers are increasingly outsourcing their production to Asia, Dallmeier continues to trust in Germany as its manufacturing base and even expands its production facilities in Regensburg. As of August 2008, the company will produce its own high-speed PTZ domes there.
For many years, the company Dallmeier, with its headquarters in Regensburg, Germany, has been building a prestigious international reputation as a manufacturer of products and solutions for video surveillance. In doing so the company has repeatedly given new impulses to the market through unique innovations and unprecedented novelties. The world’s first recording device with digital picture storage released in 1992 is a good example of Dallmeier’s innovative strength.
Dallmeier has developed it’s own formula for success: the company closely tracks the latest developments but refuses to blindly follow trends and is rather always searching for the best solutions for individual requirements; even if doing so means to strive against the stream. Whereas manufacturing facilities seem to be gradually disappearing from Germany completely, due to Asia luring companies away using cheap labour, Dallmeier is doing the exact opposite.
Not only will the company keep its production site in Regensburg, Bavaria, but also make a significant step further and bring even more know-how to Germany. Starting in August 2008, Dallmeier will also produce high-speed PTZ domes at its headquarters.
From Recorder Manufacturer to Supplier of Comprehensive Solutions
Dallmeier has long been regarded as being mainly a manufacturer of digital video recorders. However, over the years the company’s product range has been increasing steadily and now includes cameras, software, storage systems, video management and video analysis. In other words, Dallmeier offers all the components necessary to form complete surveillance solutions.
The development of Dallmeier’s own range of cameras is a prime example of the corporate philosophy of the Regensburg company. Dallmeier began developing cameras about three years ago. In doing so, the firm emphasised a close cooperation with Pixim right from the beginning. Pixim’s most advanced `Digital Pixel System (DPS)´ platform was not yet sufficient for Dallmeier however and merely served as a basis for a further development, which resulted in the proprietary Cam_inPIX technology.
Within a short period of time, the cameras “made in Germany“ gained worldwide recognition and are now being successfully used in numerous projects. From August 2008 onwards, the range of trusted box and dome cameras will be expanded by high-speed PTZ domes with Cam_inPIX technology – manufactured, of course, in Regensburg. Dallmeier thus demonstrates that Germany is by all means an attractive business location.
Germany or Asia?
Obviously, the decision to stay in Germany was based on facts gathered during preliminary enquiries into potential manufacturing sites around the world. “We visited many international production facilities beforehand“, says Dieter Dallmeier. Eventually, the company chose to stay in Germany as its established business location.
“We will certainly need to invest in our facilities here in order to enable the manufacture of highspeed PTZ domes. However, this is the better way to go in the long run because we can maintain our strict quality requirements, taking the high demands of our customers seriously. The range of potential manufacturing sites across Asia is diverse, whereby the focus there is on cheap labour. As a provider of security technology, our demands naturally have to be much higher. A cost-effective production simply doesn’t suffice, the operating processes need to be optimised in order to be able to manufacture high-quality products.”
So it’s about the whole approach to manufacturing. Dallmeier does not believe in bulkbuying pre-built products and shipping them to Germany just to be labelled. Unfortunately, all other German CCTV manufacturers have decided to do precisely that. Hence, Dallmeier is now the only CCTV company manufacturing in Germany.
Dieter Dallmeier has defined orientation and guidelines in detail: “All products are continuously monitored during their production. In addition, each product is subject to a final test before dispatch, which is carried out under increased testing conditions in an air-conditioned environment and under continuous operation. Only those devices which pass all the tests with flying colours will be shipped. The number of certifications and awards as well as the satisfied customers are the best confirmation for the quality and correctness of our concept. The quality of our products is a decisive factor for our customers’ confidence in our competence.”
Know-how in Germany
Grundig was the last company to manufacture in Germany, as once did Siemens and Bosch, to name just a few renowned examples. When tube technology was replaced by CCD devices, however, the manufacturing of surveillance cameras disappeared from Germany. The long-term effect of that development is of course a significant loss of valuable knowhow.
A good example from the consumer area market for photo optics, which once was a domain of German firms. Meanwhile, Asian economies have profited from the technical know-how and thus taken over the leading role in this market. A similar fate would be in store for the security industry.
Dallmeier reacts to that. Especially at a time when the relocation of production facilities to Asia is booming, the company expands its manufacture in Germany, by adding another product to its range with the production of high-speed PTZ domes. As of yet, no other firm has attempted to manufacture such cameras in Germany. Regensburg is set to become a mecca for CCTV, with regard to both recording as well as camera technology.
Dallmeier at IFSEC 2008
As in previous years, Dallmeier’s stand at IFSEC 2008 again attracted an increased number of visitors. The German manufacturer presented a host of innovative products and customer-oriented solutions for professional CCTV/IP video security applications.
VMC-1 “Eagle”
Dallmeier’s new Video Management Centre VMC-1 ‘Eagle’, with its ergonomic design and wide-ranging functionalities, was equally applauded by customers, journalists and industry experts. The VMC-1 ‘Eagle’ is based on a completely new concept of video management.
Dallmeier DesignCams
Dallmeier also introduced visitors to yet another highlight, showcasing its innovative range of DesignCams. Customers increasingly demand more than just a technically flawless product; they also view cameras from an aesthetic point of view.
Picodome
The public was invited to test for themselves the capabilities and functionality of the latest version of the Dallmeier Picodome – the world’s smallest camera with UWDR Cam_inPIX technology.
