What’s happening in Digital Access?
The 21-page report explores key trends and technologies driving digital access in 2025 and beyond. It includes commentary from specialists in cyber/physical security threats and cloud access management, as well as insights from a broad range of digital access experts at Assa Abloy.
Wireless access solutions are now mainstream. Adoption has climbed steadily – from 39% in 2023 to 42% in 2025, according to data from a survey carried out exclusively for this 2025 report. These solutions are now integral to modern access management strategies and workflows. According to Assa Abloy, this is the first time in over a decade of researching and publishing their report that wireless (either fully or partly) systems have overtaken wired systems among those who manage access digitally.
The new report helps people in organizations like yours to understand why – and to grasp the implications of what comes next.
Report coverage includes:
The mobile access rollout boom: Mobile digital access is no longer a novelty. Increasingly, it is an expectation. Mobile keys are now deeply embedded in the digital access ecosystem: 17% of survey respondents report running fully mobile systems (up from 5% in 2023).
Biometrics gaining traction: Biometric access is also emerging as a serious, scalable option in physical security, not just for sensitive facilities, but increasingly for general commercial settings. A large a majority of those surveyed (91%) view biometrics as a useful authentication tool.
Sustainability and digital strategy: Energy use is critical to procurement, with 27% now calling sustainability the most important decision factor. For many organizations, across multiple and diverse sectors, sustainability is switching from a supporting role to a strategic driver.
Cyber security and compliance: With NIS2 coming into force and obligations under the EU’s Cyber Resilience Act fast approaching, many businesses are focusing on increasingly business-critical hybrid cyber–physical security threats – or risk financial penalties for failing to do so.
