Smart connectivity is more than a buzzword – it’s the key to a new era of building technology. Light + Building 2026 is the place to be if you want to know how digital connectivity is redefining modern building efficiency, planning and control.

From 8 to 13 March 2026, the world’s leading lighting and building technology trade fair will once again bring the industry together in Frankfurt am Main. Some 2,000 companies have already stated their intention to take part, both from Germany and further afield.

The motto behind this top international event is ‘Be Electrified – Electrifying Places. Illuminating Spaces’. In an increasingly dynamic market, Light + Building provides guidance and practical solutions. It’s a forum where all trades and professions can get to grips with the future of planning, building and living. Its top theme ‘Smart Connectivity’ focuses on interfaces, connected systems and data-driven controls which all increase efficiency, security and user comfort. As always, visitors will gain an overview of the latest trends and innovations.

Interconnected buildings as systems with smart connectivity

Increasingly, buildings are becoming digital systems with multiple interfaces. The top theme ‘Smart Connectivity’ indicates where the potential for technological innovation lies in terms of achieving efficiency gains in planning, operating and using buildings. These innovations include platforms for ‘Smart Building Infrastructure’, as well as the ‘Internet of things (IoT) & AI in Building Management’. They all analyse data in real time and control processes automatically, whether for energy distribution or indoor air regulation. ‘Digital Workflows & Efficiency Technologies’ are at the heart of these innovations. These are software solutions, AI-based assistance systems and automated processes that make everyday tasks easier for planners and operators. Bridging the gap between digital planning and actual building operation are ‘Building Information Modelling (BIM) & Digital Twin’. Security is also a key component of the fair: ‘Connected Security & Cybersecurity’ involves solutions that use connected systems to guard against both physical and digital risks. ‘System Integration’ and ‘Predictive Maintenance’ both allow buildings to operate sustainably and remain resilient throughout their entire life cycle.

Experience technology up close and personal

To witness what ‘Smart Connectivity’ looks like in practice, visit the stands presenting building technology solutions in the west of the exhibition grounds: Halls 12.0 and 12.1 will focus on innovations in the fields of electrical installation, charging infrastructure, energy management and photovoltaics. Meanwhile Halls 11.0 and 11.1 are dedicated to connectivity in automation, controls and energy distribution, while Hall 9.0 combines electrical engineering, home and building automation and security technology.

And there’s more – conversation, inspiration and knowledge

In addition to the exhibition area, Light + Building offers a varied programme of events that promotes knowledge transfer and networking. Stages, forums and interactive formats provide plenty of opportunities to discuss the latest developments. The Technology Forum by ZVEI  and the E-house by ZVEH  mean visitors can experience smart applications, while the Exhibitor Stage allows exhibitors to present innovative solutions in a compact format. Free guided tours, for example on current solutions in security technology, offer a good opportunity to get your bearings and talk to fellow professionals. Further contributions to the event programme come from the BTGA, the House of Energy Congress, the IEECB&SC and European ESCO Conference held in the Portalhaus and the Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Associations.
